I’ll share the journey from a traditional Location Analyst role—primarily using Excel, PowerPoint, and legacy GIS tools—to a Full-Stack Spatial Data Scientist approach that incorporates a cloud-native geospatial stack (QGIS, Snowflake, CARTO). Beyond simply replacing tools, this journey has transformed TJX's way of working with geospatial data, allowing end-to-end ownership of projects, reproducible and scalable workflows, and a single source of truth for data in the cloud. By bridging site selection with customer analytics, we’re now able to deliver deeper, more reliable insights that scale with the needs of the business. In this talk, I’ll dive into the challenges of this transformation, from gaining stakeholder buy-in to reshaping collaboration patterns across departments. I’ll highlight why a full-stack mindset—encompassing everything from data ingestion and analysis to visualisation—brings significant benefits in efficiency, consistency, and speed. By sharing real-world examples and lessons learned, I hope to illustrate how embracing a modern geospatial workflow isn’t just about updating technology, but about creating a more agile, data-driven organisation that’s prepared to tackle the evolving demands of retail analytics.
